Floor Sanding Technique
The initial sanding removes old varnish and erases scratches, scuffs, impact marks, discoloration, yellowing, and stains. Medium-grit sandpaper is used for this first sanding.
A second sanding is then performed with fine-grit sandpaper, which smooths the wood planks to perfection. We then apply a stain (if desired) or simply a water-based varnish (Idro 2k or Aqua Tenax from Vermeister) or an oil-based varnish (from manufacturer MC Crystal). Water-based varnishes are available in matte, satin, semi-gloss, or gloss finishes. Oil-based varnishes provide a very glossy finish.
If your floor is made of softwood or its surface is covered with glue or oil-based paint, the sanding process will be longer and the price will be higher. Coarse-grit sandpaper will then be used for the first sanding.
Staining
If you wish to transform the appearance of your hardwood or engineered wood floor, our experienced technicians can stain it a lighter or darker color. A wide range of natural stains (replicating traditional or exotic wood species) will be offered, including custom stains!
We use Tonetic semi-transparent water-based stain from Pratt & Lambert. It's necessary to wait at least 24 hours before applying the varnish. If we stain your floor, we can also stain your staircase. A guaranteed decor transformation!
